The Company of Strangers

It’s ten years since I released STRANGERS – a freaky little standalone novel about multiple murders in and around a small Scottish town.

Strangers by David Moody

STRANGERS is a grubby tale about our inherent mistrust of ‘the other’. I wrote it when I was at a low ebb, and reading it again after a decade, it’s clear that the story was influenced by some of the things that were going on in my personal life. For the avoidance of doubt, the similarities are fleeting. The main character Scott – an abusive bankrupt with a criminal past who’s suspected of being a serial killer – is 100% absolutely, categorically NOT based on me!

A spate of brutal murders rocks the small Scottish town of Thussock. The bodies of the dead are savagely mutilated and unspeakably defiled. There are no apparent motives and no obvious connections between the victims.

Thussock is a close community – a quiet, inward looking place where crimes like this NEVER happen. People treat new arrivals with caution, and the killings only started when the Griffiths family arrived in town.

Under suspicion and under threat, can Scott Griffiths uncover the bloody truth before it’s too late?

STRANGERS is easily Moody’s best work to date, a dark, disturbing and visceral book that gives him a legitimate claim to the title of Britain’s Best Living Horror Author” —THIS IS HORROR

As revealed recently to newsletter subscribers, I’ve taken this opportunity to revisit and re-edit the book, and a new edition will be published in early 2025. There are a few of my INFECTED BOOKS releases that were never published in hardcover, and over the course of 2025 I’ll be putting that right. The hardcover editions (which will contain newly written bonus content) will sit perfectly in your library alongside the limited editions of TRUST, THE LAST BIG THING, SHADOWLOCKED, and AUTUMN: DAWN, INFERNO, and EXODUS. New paperback editions will also be published to bring older books in line with the rest of the IB catalogue.

There’s no firm release date for the new edition of STRANGERS, though it’ll likely be late January/February 2025. If you’re interested in grabbing a copy, please make sure you’re signed up to the newsletter. Mailing list subscribers will also be getting an exclusive discount on next year’s re-releases.
