Plans for Autumn

Although you’ve seen little in the way of results, I’m currently making good progress on a number of different projects. I mentioned some of them in my recent short story, AN APOLOGY. I’m currently wrapping up two novels – PENUMBRA and DIRTY DAY. For various reasons, I’m not able to yet say when or how these books will be released. I hope to be able to share more details in the coming weeks.

Autumn: The Human Condition by David Moody

I can tell you about another project, though.

Incredibly, last week saw the tenth anniversary of the publication of AUTUMN: THE HUMAN CONDITION – the much expanded, far superior, second edition of the collection that brought together around forty AUTUMN short stories. If you’ve read the book, you’ll know that some of the shorts were standalone tales, while many others featured characters from the original five novels. Throughout the writing of THE LONDON TRILOGY between 2020 and 2022, I often came up with scenarios I thought would make good shorts based on some of the locations and characters from AUTUMN: DAWN, INFERNO, and EXODUS. I never wanted to write another full AUTUMN collection, but I always planned to write those stories. And now I’ve decided how I’m going to share them.

Later this year, I’ll be releasing a (thick and heavy) single volume edition of THE LONDON TRILOGY, and these short stories will be included, dotted throughout the text at appropriate points. I’m hopeful that the whole thing will be released in print, eBook, and audio formats before the end of 2023. AUTUMN: THE HUMAN CONDITION

In terms of the print edition, I don’t yet know if it’ll be hardcover, paperback, or both (though do let me know if you have a preference). I’m currently crunching the numbers, as it’s going to be a very weighty tome. One thing I know for certain is that the print edition will ONLY be available direct from Infected Books. I don’t envisage there being an enormous demand for the collection, and it won’t be cost-effective for the book to be widely distributed. The risk of returns, and the wholesale discounts that would be involved would make the pricing of the book prohibitive.

In any event, by now some of you will likely be thinking “screw you, Moody, I’ve already bought all the books once, I’m not paying for the same thing again”, and I wouldn’t blame you. However, if you’ve been following me for any length of time, I hope you know that I’m a fan of a) giving stuff away, and b) never asking people to buy the same things over and over. For this reason, all the additional content I write will also be added to the FREE FICTION section of www.lastoftheliving.net.

So there you go! Happy birthday to AUTUMN: THE HUMAN CONDITION. I’ll let you have more details about the collected LONDON TRILOGY over the course of the next few months.
