I’m thinking about writing a novel in which a family work their fingers to the bone to own their dream home, only for a demonic entity from the depths of hell to wreak chaos and confusion and destroy everything. Oh, wait, that’s not a story idea – that’s my life. Just two days after putting the finishing touches to the downstairs of our house, we were flooded. Oh, and it wasn’t a demonic entity, it was a fist-sized block of concrete in the drain that had been there since the place was built.
My office, next to the downstairs bathroom where the blockage made its presence known, bore the brunt of the flood waters. No books were harmed, but I’ve had to empty the entire room. I was not impressed. Neither was Jasper, one of our cats, who can be seen here surveying the carnage.
It goes without saying, all books will be signed. Postage is free in the UK.
Perfect Christmas/Thanksgiving/New Year presents for the grim dystopian fans in your life! Get in quick because there are some offers here that will be snapped up quickly. If there are any particular books you’re after that aren’t listed, get in touch and I’ll let you know if I have any.
Unfortunately, because of recent changes to EU VAT rules, I’m not currently able to sell to folks in the EU via the Infected Books store. If you’re in the EU and you’re interested in any of these books, let me know and we’ll make alternative arrangements.
More people have been saying nice things about CHOKEHOLD. 2bookloversreviews said: “Authors are able to accomplish some incredible things: they create worlds that captivate people, they imagine characters that complete strangers connect with, they make people forget, temporarily, about the normal lives they live. David Moody has accomplished all of this with his Hater world.”
And I was equally pleased with AintitCool’s feedback (even though they got my name wrong in the headline!): “The novel is a speedy downhill slalom race to the final war between the Haters and Unchanged. There’s no air to breathe, every page is crisp and determined. As characters you love draw to their unfortunate ends, you’re left in their ashes wondering if anyone will make it out alive. It’s everything a novel on war should feel like. Desolate and relentless, no one is safe here. David Moody has put together a completely satisfactory end to this trilogy.”
One final post to advise that the Infected Bookstore will close its virtual doors tomorrow at around midnight UK time. Head over there now for one last look around…
And just to confirm, signed books will still be available from Amazon and eBay (and eventually from this site too). This is a ‘repositioning’ (to use a horrible corporate term). Infected Books is a publisher first and foremost, not a book shop!
It seems like I’m always trying to get you to buy signed books from www.infectedbooks.co.uk, but please allow me one last post…
I’ve decided that I’ll be closing the Infected Bookstore shortly. Signed books will still be available (direct from this site, eventually), but running the store as is just isn’t working out as I’d hoped.
All the books are in mint condition and will be personally signed.
Rest assured, this isn’t the end of me or of Infected Books, just a re-focus. I hope you’ll find something of interest in the store, and do please check back regularly over the coming days as I put more of my inventory online. If you’re looking for a specific title to complete your collection, drop me a line and I’ll see what I can find.
I’ve been bowled over with the response to the new version of STRAIGHT TO YOU. Sales have been strong, and folks have been really positive with their words. To celebrate, until March 21 you can pick up signed copies of STRAIGHT TO YOU, TRUST and AUTUMN: THE HUMAN CONDITION at a 10% discount from www.infectedbooks.co.uk. And don’t forget, complementary ebook versions are included with all those titles.
Alternatively, you could try and win a copy of the new book. There’s a giveaway running over at SCREAM MAGAZINE!
And remember, those of you who purchase the hardcover version of THE HUMAN CONDITION will automatically qualify for a discount on the forthcoming Infected Books/Gollancz (even more limited) edition of AUTUMN: AFTERMATH.
There have been several reasons for the lack of activity on this site recently. Some of them you already know about, namely JOE AND ME and TRUST (more information about TRUST coming next week, by the way). Some reasons I haven’t shared yet, though, and they include finishing the first 100,000 word draft of a brand new novel, preparatory work on a new five book horror/science-fiction series, planning the rewrite of STRAIGHT TO YOU, outlining another new novel (as close as I’ll ever get to a vampire story), and finishing up work on the script for ISOLATION (yes, it is still happening and yes, I’ll tell you more about it very soon).
There’s something else that’s been eating up my time recently – moving house. Barring any last-minute hitches, my family and I should be relocating in the next month or so. That might not be particularly interesting to anyone but us, but there are a couple of implications you might want to know about.
Firstly, I’ve got an enormous number of books in my loft, and I want to get rid of most of them. So I’m having a clearance sale. Head over to www.infectedbooks.co.uk now to pick up a few bargains. There are a handful of Infected Books paperback editions of AUTUMN as well as the last box of copies of the original 1996 release of STRAIGHT TO YOU, all going at reasonable prices. All the books are in mint condition and will be signed.
Second… does anyone still use VHS? I ask because I’ve got a couple of hundred assorted movies on tape which are of no use to me whatsoever. They’re going free to anyone who wants them, but there are a couple of conditions: 1. that whoever has them takes the lot (because I don’t have time to split them up) and, 2. you need to be in the UK and able to collect (because I’m not paying the postage on four huge boxes of tapes!). If you’re interested (serious enquiries only, please), then get in touch and we’ll talk. Bear in mind that these are mostly horror and science-fiction movies collected by yours truly between 1989 and 1997 (I think) and there are more than a few howlers in there. I’ll happily send a list of titles to those who are genuinely interested.
I recently posted about the fact I have a backlog of too many ideas and not enough time. Your responses were reassuring. It's good to know I'm not the only one who struggles with an off-kilter inspira...
I was away with the missus last week, a lovely break in the sun that had been delayed for a couple of years. It's funny how time compresses and stretches when you're older. Feels like we waiting forever to only be away for what felt like a few minutes...Anyway, I had a post set up about life's ticking clock to appear while we were away. It should have shared here automatically but it didn't. Here it is: ... See MoreSee Less
